UAE & Global Warming May 29, 2007

UAE press is showing an increase in the awareness of global warming. The country is interested in saving the environment in different ways. It is a developed country (even if not everybody agrees with me) and this costs it a price; it is polluting the environment.

The country started many projects to use the sun light and wind for generating power. UAE is hosting Scandinavian renewable energy experts to promote houses which are powered by solar energy. An emirati man made a car which works by solar energy. By US$380 million UAE is building a solar energy plant in the desert to provide the country with its needs from energy. In Fujairah, three wind farms  are planned to be built, they will produce 66 mega Watts of electricity. Also, some companies are participating in saving environment. Massafi, a leading producer of bottled mineral water in the UAE, are joining in the recycling program.

The rise of sea level (one of the effects) May 28, 2007

Global warming is a serious problem that we are facing. Their effects are worldwide and should be stopped immediately. One of the main effects is the increase of sea level by at least 25 meters. As the temperature increases the north and south poles’ ice is melting. The more ice melt, the more risks humans face. Less solar rays are reflected to the space because the ice is like a mirror to these rays. In the recent years many floods and storms are occurring in the world, specially the costal cities or these which lie on river banks. It also threatens the plants and animals which are living in the same areas. Many cities are suffering from heavy rains which are caused by the Global Warming. The water cycle is happing more as temperature and level of water rise.

Efects of the Global Warming May 28, 2007

There are lots of effects of the global warming that threaten our lives and every thing on the earth. The main effect is the increasing of average temperature and as result of this a variety of effects occur such as rising sea levels, increased in the extreme weather events, and the expansion of tropical diseases. Some of these effects happened earlier or are happening now, while others are predicted to occur in the near future.

In the time magazine, they said “India’s worst heat shock in 50 years killed more than 2,500 people in May 1998” which means that global warming is affecting every body and its effects problems more serious than ever.

Huge parts of ice poles are melting causing the increase in the sea level. Many species are left without home.

Man-made Causes May 28, 2007

1.     Increasing the Greenhous effect: as I mention before, Greenhouse gases are produced by nature. Humans are increasing the amounts of these gases by their activities like burning fossil fuels. Also we are adding new Greenhouse gases like CFCs.

 2.     Land misuse: Forests are ripped and covered by asphalt or concrete. The forests are the lungs of the earth because which reduce the amount of carbon dioxide and give the earth the oxygen.

 3.     Aerosols: By agricultural and industrial activities human send many aerosols to the atmosphere. These aerosols are pulled back to the earth by the gravity or rains, but before that it cause imbalance in the solar lights.

 4.     Burning Fossil Fuels: We are burning fossil fuels to get energy. These fuels send CO2 out which is one of the Greenhouse gases. It does not permit the solar radiation to go out.

The Causes of global warming (Natural) May 26, 2007

The causes of global warming can be categorized in two types:

·        Natural causes

·        Man made causes

Nature can be one of the reasons of the Global Warming. There is more than one natural factor for increasing the temperature:

1.     Changes in Solar Output: the amount of solar radiation does not remain constant.

2.     Changes in the Earth’s Orbit: the change of the position of the earth around the sun affects the amount of the energy which is received by the globe.

3.     The Greenhouse Effect: it is when the solar light is trapped by certain gasses like CO2, Methane, Vapor, and nitrous oxide.

4.     Aerosols: the droplets and particles are hanged in the atmosphere. The change in the quantity or the type of these aerosols affects the temperature, because they absorb and reflect the solar light.

These are the main natural factors for global warming.

!! GLOBAL WARMING !! May 6, 2007

Global warming is an increase of the globe’s temperature. This is caused by greenhouse gases (CO2, water vapor, N2O, and CH4). These gases trap the solar light in the atmosphere of the earth. People are burning more fossil fuels everyday, so the temperature keeps rising. Global warming affects everything on the earth such as plants, animals, and most importantly us!! It is not only temperature which is changing, precipitation rate, storms and sea level all of these are influenced. The number of floods and storms in the recent years climbs. Many agricultural areas have been affected by the change of climate. As the temperature grows the sea level gets higher because oceans absorb more heat. Ice is melting from the poles which make the organisms living there gradually disappears. Many cities are predicted to disappear as a result of the increase of sea level. Some people still think that they don’t have to do something, and the crisis will be solved by its self.
